> Research & Development. This can be anywhere from weeks, to months, to years in the case of an app such as Total Recall
> Maintenance, updates & new features. This is an ongoing process, and for that $10 you spent, you'll get a lot of added value in the future
> Support. Yep, although you may not realize it, every time we respond to one of your emails, it takes time. By your 20th email, we're probably losing money on your $10 purchase
> Payment processing charges. Considering most of our users pay with a credit card, that ends up being about 2.5% of the purchase price plus forty cents or so per transaction. Not to mention chargeback fees, merchant account fees, etc, etc
> Rent, Equipment, Supplies. We spend thousands of dollars a year just buying the latest mobile phones to develop on
> Taxes. Just like you, we have to pay our taxes, so that $10 you're paying doesn't mean we end up with $10 in our pockets, it ends up more like $7 after the US Government takes it's share
> Resellers. Didn't purchase the app directly from killermobile.com. Then at the very best we're seeing 70% of the sales price, but sometimes much less
Wow! Where did that $10 go? Really, after all of the above is considered, it's gone. So sure, we could sell it for 99 cents like many of the iPhone idiots out there, or the Chinese copy catters, but just like them, we'd be out of business in a few months. We prefer a business model that actually works, and having built (and sold) Killer Mobile ® Apps since 2003, I think we can honestly say we've withstood the test of time, and that our business model IS working just fine. So next time you have the hankering to complain about the price of a $10 mobile app, take a minute to think about just what goes into one. And as you're standing at the urinal of your local coffee shop, just think, right now you're just one piss away from the price of a Killer Mobile ® App.
